Some people say that when St. Valentine was imprisoned for daring to defy Roman Emperor Claudius by secretly getting couples married, he fell in love with the daughter of the jailer. Another version says that since St. Valentine was beheaded on 14th February, the day was announced to be the day of lovers, as a mark of respect to the patron saint of love.
